President Tran Dai Quang hosts welcome ceremony for US President Barack Obama

At the invitation of President Tran Dai Quang, President of the United States of America Barack Obama has arrived in Hanoi, beginning his official visit to Vietnam. A ceremonial welcome for US President Obama took place at the Presidential Palace in the morning of May 23, hosted by President Tran Dai Quang.

Welcomed with the highest reception rituals for the Head of State, the US President joined his host on the pavilion and addressed the guards of honour.

The ceremony saw the presence of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Binh Minh; Head of the Vietnamese Presidential Office Dao Viet Trung; Vietnamese Ambassador to the US Pham Quang Vinh; leaders of the Ministries of Agriculture and Rural Development; Planning and Investment; Education and Training; Industry and Trade; Transport; Science and Technology; Natural Resources and Environment; Health, the Public Security; National Defense; and leaders of the Hanoi municipal People's Committee.

The US delegation saw the attendance of Secretary of State John Kerry, National Security Advisor Susan Rice, and US Ambassador to Vietnam Ted Osius, among others.

Following the ceremony, both leaders held talks at the Presidential Palace.
