Profound inspiration for global national liberation movement

Fifty years ago, Viet Nam triumphantly concluded a long and arduous resistance war by liberating the South and unifying the country, ushering the nation into a new era of development. For peace-loving people worldwide, the 1975 Great Spring Victory not only symbolises the indomitable will of the Vietnamese people but also serves as a significant source of encouragement for global struggles for national liberation.

Half a century has passed, yet the memories and impressions of Viet Nam’s glorious victory remain deeply etched in the hearts of many international friends. Professor Vladimir Buyanov, Chairman of the Russia-Viet Nam Friendship Association, shared that the 1975 Spring Victory holds immense historical significance for both the Vietnamese people and the international community. This event marked the end of the 21-year resistance against the US and became an eternal symbol of Viet Nam’s persistent efforts to achieve independence.

Thanks to this great victory, Viet Nam achieved unification, fulfilling the long-awaited aspiration for peace. The victory signified the failure of neo-colonialism and foreign intervention in Viet Nam’s internal affairs, becoming a symbol of successful resistance against imperialism and marking the beginning of a new chapter in Viet Nam’s history.

The 1975 Great Spring Victory epitomises the strength of unity, unwavering will, and the burning desire of the entire Vietnamese Party, people, and army. The correct leadership of the Communist Party of Viet Nam was the decisive factor leading to the final victory.

Professor Dr Cheng Hanping, Director of the Viet Nam Research Centre at Zhejiang University of Technology, emphasised that the April 30, 1975 victory, achieved under the leadership of the Communist Party of Viet Nam, clearly demonstrates that only the Communist Party could lead the people to expel invaders and reclaim national independence and freedom, thereby establishing the Party’s firm credibility among the people.

Meanwhile, Chairman of the Russia-Viet Nam Friendship Association Vladimir Buyanov affirmed that the victory on April 30, 1975 became a symbol of national strength, a clear testament to the wisdom of the Communist Party of Viet Nam and the courage of the Vietnamese people, proving the power of national unity and the importance of international solidarity for the Vietnamese people.

For oppressed nations worldwide, the 1975 Spring Victory was a tremendous motivation, empowering their struggles for national independence.

According to Bounlua Phandanouvong, Acting Head of the External Relations Committee of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, under the brilliant leadership of the Communist Party of Viet Nam, the 1975 Spring General Offensive and Uprising, culminating in the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign, achieved complete and glorious victory, ending Viet Nam’s prolonged resistance against the US. This was one of the greatest feats and the most brilliant milestones in Viet Nam’s history, also a significant event for Southeast Asian countries and the world.

This victory created a “once-in-a-thousand-years” opportunity for the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party to lead the Lao people in seizing power and officially establishing the Lao People’s Democratic Republic on December 2, 1975. This historical milestone led the world to recognise Laos’s independence, placing Laos on the world map as a peaceful, autonomous country capable of defending and developing itself, equal to other nations, and enhancing its position regionally and globally.

Scholar Uch Leang, Deputy Director of the Department of Asia-Africa and Middle East Studies at the Institute of International Relations under the Royal Academy of Cambodia, and President of the Cambodian Alumni Association in Viet Nam, believes that the victory on April 30, 1975 was not only a triumph for the Vietnamese people but also held great significance for all three Indochinese countries. This victory contributed to ending the war in Indochina, creating a turning point that enabled Cambodia, Viet Nam, and Laos to enter a new era of development and prosperity.

French historian Alain Ruscio emphasised that the April 30, 1975, historical event resonated globally, showcasing a nation’s refusal to submit to invaders. This victory holds special meaning not only for Viet Nam but also for the international community.

Asian studies expert Pierre Cayet highlighted that the 1975 victory demonstrates the Vietnamese people’s patriotism and strong will over thousands of years. Viet Nam is a resilient nation admired by many. In France, during the resistance, especially since the Paris Agreement negotiations began, the movement supporting Viet Nam grew significantly. Therefore, the day Viet Nam achieved its historic victory was also a day of joy for peace-loving French citizens who shared Viet Nam’s happiness.

Researcher Pierre Cayet affirmed that the Vietnamese people have every right to be proud of their nation’s heroic tradition of struggle.

Many researchers believe that after the historic 1975 victory, Viet Nam successfully found a development path suitable for the country’s situation.

According to Associate Professor Dr Thananan Boonwanna, a Thai historian, the Spring 1975 Victory became a solid foundation for Viet Nam to innovate, build, and develop the country, achieving significant accomplishments and contributing to the region’s sustainable development and prosperity.
