Under the project, MAG will provide the funding during the 2026-2030 period to survey and clear bombs and unexploded ordnance (UXO) in northern Quang Tri, with the aim of enhancing safety and security, promoting socio-economic development in affected areas and contributing to the Sustainable Development Goals.
The project is expected to release more than 38.8 million sq.m of land for community development in line with current standards, while removing and destroying cluster munitions and other explosive remnants of war that threaten the lives and daily activities of local communities.
It will also raise public awareness and knowledge of UXO risks and strengthen coordination and cooperation in humanitarian affairs, peace, stability, development and environmental protection.
As part of the project, around 15,000 mine-risk education materials will be produced, including drawing books, flip charts, stickers, pens, rulers, pencil cases and other communication materials to support education on preventing mine and UXO-related accidents.
MAG, a UK-based non-governmental organisation, has operated in Quang Binh Province — now part of Quang Tri — since 2003, providing mine-risk education and clearing bombs, mines and other UXO from contaminated areas.
During 2021-2025 alone, MAG implemented a project in Quang Binh with funding of more than 16.2 million USD.
