Director of the U Minh Ha National Forest Huynh Minh Nguyen said that the forest has been well preserved thanks to strict management, creating an ideal living environment for rare wild animals and attracting scientists to study.

Scientific research in 2010 found that the U Minh Ha National Forest had 32 mammal species and 13 bird species with 74 types.

More rare wild animals have been discovered in the forest. No deer were seen ten years ago, but are now estimated at 700 to 800, including old ones weighing up to 180kg. Hundreds of boar have also been found; the biggest is estimated 200kg, together with rare birds with a wingspan of over one metre.

The U Minh Ha National Forest is located in U Minh and Tran Van Thoi districts with a total area of 8,500ha.
