National qualifying round of Microsoft Office Championship 2015 launched

The national qualifying round of the Microsoft Office Specialist World Championship (MOSWC) 2015 was launched simultaneously in six provinces and cities nationwide on April 19.

The contest is being held in Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Hai Phong, Thai Nguyen, Hue and An Giang. A day earlier, the qualifying round of the MOSWC 2015 was held in Da Nang for contestants from the central region.

This year's competition was organised by the Ministry of Education and Training (MOET), IIG Vietnam Company, Viettel and Tuoi Tre (Youth) Newspaper, and attracted the participation of 1,500 contestants in 260 teams from across the country.

This is the first year the competition was launched in all 63 provinces and cities nationwide with the highest number of contestants compared to the previous years.

Tran Anh Tuan, a representative from the MOET said at the launching ceremony in Ho Chi Minh City that the competition is a useful intellectual playground for teenagers across the country which helps promote the use of technology in schools and contributes to developing human resources in Vietnam.

The top candidates from the qualifying round will attend the final round on May 24 which will determine the three winners representing Vietnam to compete at the world finals in Dallas, Texas in August.

The MOSWC is the world's largest office informatics competition held annually on global scale by the US-based Certiport Corporation for students aged 13-22.

Vietnam has participated in six out of 14 annual MOSWC competitions, winning top prizes in the world finals for three consecutive years including the gold medal for Microsoft Word 2010 at MOWC 2012, bronze medal for Microsoft Word 2010 at MOSWC 2013, and two bronze medals for Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint 2010 at MOSWC 2014.
