Laos joins hands with Vietnam to fight COVID-19

The Vietnamese Consulate General in Luang Prabang has received US$45,000 from the two provinces of Phongsaly and Luang Namtha of Laos as a means of supporting Vietnam’s national COVID-19 vaccine fund.

Accordingly, Phongsaly province handed over about US$15,000 and Luang Namtha province gave about US$30,000 to Vietnam's national COVID-19 vaccine fund.

Vietnamese Consul General in Luang Prabang Nguyen Dang Hung thanked the Party Committee, government and people of Phongsaly and Luang Namtha provinces for their meaningful and timely gifts, and vowed to send the donations to Vietnam immediately to serve in the fight against the pandemic.

He emphasised that mutual assistance in difficult times between the two countries is clear proof of the great friendship, special solidarity and comprehensive cooperation between Vietnam and Laos.

Representatives from Laos' Phongsaly and Luang Namtha provinces emphasised that, upon learning Vietnam was facing its fourth wave of the Covid-19 epidemic, the Laos provinces decided to support and help the Vietnamese localities twinned with the provinces in their Covid-19 epidemic prevention and control efforts through Vietnam's Covid-19 vaccine fund.

Specifically, Phongsaly province supports Lai Chau, Son La, Phu Tho, Vinh Phuc, Tuyen Quang and Thai Nguyen provinces; meanwhile Luang Namtha province supports Dien Bien, Son La, Phu Tho and Vinh Phuc provinces.
