The event brings together more than 500 athletes and coaches, including 264 for rowing and nearly 300 for canoeing, from seven Southeast Asian countries: Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and host Vietnam.
Participating athletes were selected from national teams and U19 and U23 teams of each country.
The event will run until June 30 on Gia River, Thuy Nguyen District.
According to Rangsan Wongsan, Chairman of the Southeast Asian Rowing Federation, the tournament is a prestigious event in the region, aiming to examine rowers' capacity ahead of the the 33rd Southeast Asian Games (SEA Games), which is scheduled in Thailand next year.
For her part, the Director of Hai Phong City Department of Culture and Sports Hoang Thi Mai, said Hai Phong has made bold investments in sports complexes and facilities, serving training and successfully hosting many major national and international competitions.
