National Rowing and Canoeing Championship kicks off in Da Nang

The National Rowing and Canoeing Championship kicked off in Da Nang City on May 11, gathering more than 440 athletes from 40 teams, across the country.

The entrants will compete in 20 events for men and women in the rowing category. In the canoeing and kayak category, they will vie for 40 men’s and women’s events in three distances, including 200 metres, 500 metres, and 1,000 metres.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, the Director of the Da Nang City Centre of Sports Tran Cong Tu, hailed that, Vietnamese canoeing and rowing have gained proud achievements in recent years.

Notably, canoeing athlete Nguyen Thi Huong and rower Pham Thi Hue recently secured the eighth and ninth spots for Vietnam, at the Paris 2024 Olympics.

The championship in Da Nang aims to provide participating athletes with an opportunity to hone their skills and gain experience in competition.

The results of the event also help to review training quality, as well as the development of rowing and canoeing clubs nationwide.

The championship, held jointly by the Vietnam Canoeing, Rowing and Sailing Federation and the Da Nang City Department of Culture and Sports, will run until May 14, at Dong Nghe Lake, Da Nang City.
