The event was held for the first time in a series of activities for the 2022 Traffic Safety Year Campaign with the theme "Building a traffic culture associated with effective control of the COVID-19 epidemic" while responding to the SEA Games 31 to inspire runners in particular and the community, in general, to build a safe traffic culture; promoting the beautiful image of the country, the people of Vietnam and the people of Ha Nam to international friends.
The first national marathon for traffic safety 2022 brought together more than 1,000 athletes to compete in four running categories: 5km, 10km, 21km and 42km. The running track of the tournament mainly surrounds Luc Nhac Lake (belonging to the Tam Chuc pagoda tourist area).
The marathon aimed to raise people’s awareness of traffic safety as well as foster a civilized traffic culture in Vietnam, thereby contributing to reducing traffic accidents.

Speaking at the ceremony, Tran Xuan Duong, Vice Chairman of Ha Nam Provincial People's Committee said that the event is a creative, effective form of propaganda that inspires people to raise their sense of self-awareness of Law enforcement, building a healthy traffic culture and a sense of health, physical and mental training when participating in traffic.
The tournament is also a big activity to welcome the 31st SEA Games, which will open in early May 2022 in Vietnam, including organizing several competitions in Ha Nam and welcoming the Ha Nam Provincial Sports Festival, he added.
At the end of the tournament, the organisers awarded eight first-place prizes, eight second-place prizes and eight third-place prizes in the distances for both men's and women's events.
On this occasion, through the Traffic Safety Committee of Ha Nam province, Giao Thong Newspaper has donated 100 million VND to 50 families of traffic accident victims with difficult circumstances throughout the province.
