Juve, Barca and Real admitted to Champions League next season

Juventus, Barcelona and Real Madrid have been admitted to next season's Champions League despite their involvement in the proposed breakaway European Super League project.

Admission letters have been sent to all Champions League participants, European soccer's governing body UEFA has said. Disciplinary proceedings against Juve, Barca and Real over their involvement in the proposed Super League have been suspended by UEFA's independent appeals body.

* Striker Ado Onaiwu bagged a six-minute first-half hat-trick as Japan confirmed their dominance in Group F of Asian 2022 World Cup qualifying with a crushing 5-1 win over the Kyrgyz Republic in Suita on Tuesday (Jun 15).

* Alvaro Morata will stay at Juventus on loan from Atletico Madrid for another season, the Serie A club confirmed on Tuesday. Morata spent last season on loan in Turin, and the clubs have come to an agreement that he can stay for another year. The 28-year-old scored 20 goals across all competitions for Juventus last season as the reigning Serie A champions endured a difficult campaign, finishing fourth in the standings.

* Liverpool have been granted planning permission for their proposed expansion of the Anfield Road stand which would increase the capacity at Anfield to over 61,000, Liverpool City Council said on Tuesday. The redevelopment will increase the ground's capacity by around 7,000, making Anfield the third-largest stadium in the Premier League by capacity, after Manchester United's Old Trafford and the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium.

* Zac Stubblety-Cook powered to the second fastest 200m breaststroke in history on Tuesday (Jun 15), narrowly missing the world record, while Kyle Chalmers comfortably booked a ticket to defend his Olympic 100m freestyle crown. The 22-year-old Stubblety-Cook earned a berth at his maiden Olympics with an electric swim at the Australian trials in Adelaide, tracking under world record pace until the final few metres to touch in 2mins 06.28secs.

* World number one Novak Djokovic has taken an unusual route to prepare for his title defence at Wimbledon by confirming his participation in doubles at next week's ATP grasscourt event in Mallorca, Spain. The Mallorca Championships was originally set to make its debut in 2020 but was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic and the ATP 250 event will be the first in Spain to be played on grass in the lead-up to Wimbledon, which starts on June 28.

* World number two Daniil Medvedev's Wimbledon preparations suffered a setback on Tuesday when he was bundled out by Germany's Jan-Lennard Struff 7-6(3) 6-3 in the opening round of the ATP 500 tournament in Halle.

* Four-time champion Chris Froome has been selected by cycling team Israel Start-Up Nation (ISN) to race the 2021 Tour de France, where he will act as road captain for team leader Michael Woods. The 36-year-old Froome vowed to claw his way back to the top and targeted a fifth Tour win after suffering multiple injuries when crashing into a wall at high speed in May 2019.

* Striker Kei Kamara scored a first half penalty as Sierra Leone sealed a berth at the Africa Cup of Nations tournament for the first time since 1996, following a 1-0 victory over Benin in their twice-postponed qualifier in neutral Conakry on Tuesday.
