Olympics: Japan’s Daiki Hashimoto wins horizontal bar crown, second gold at Tokyo 2020

Less than a week after claiming the men's all-around title, Japan's Daiki Hashimoto was golden again Tuesday (August 3), soaring to the horizontal bar crown and closing out artistic gymnastics at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games in style.

19-year-old Hashimoto earned a 15.033 for gold, just ahead of Croatia's Tin Srbic (14.900). ROC's Nikita Nagornyy rounded out the podium in third after earning a 14.533.

With his victory today, Hashimoto has stamped himself as the heir apparent to Kohei Uchimura, who has indicated the Tokyo Games could be his last. Hashimoto is also the first Japanese since Koji Gushiken (1984) to win two individual gold medals at the same Olympic Games.

Zou Jingyuan wins men's gold in parallel bars

China's Zou Jingyuan re-established his dominance on the parallel bars, winning Olympic gold Tuesday (August 3) on the final day of artistic gymnastics competition at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

Zou took the gold after scoring a massive 16.233, which is the highest score of any gymnast - male or female - at these Games.

Lukas Dauser of Germany was the silver medallist, while Turkey's Ferhat Arican won the bronze medal, making him the first-ever gymnast from his country to win an Olympic medal in the sport.

Cycling track: Netherlands end gold drought in men's team sprint

The Netherlands have ended Great Britain's dominance in the men's team sprint event by winning gold in an Olympic Record time of 41.369 at Tokyo 2020.

Not only did the Netherlands end an 85-year gold medal drought - their last gold in a men's track cycling event came when Arie Van Vliet won the men's 1km time trial at Berlin 1936 - but they became the first nation since France at Sydney 2000 to be crowned Olympic champions while being reigning world champions.

France have picked up their sixth consecutive medal at the Olympic arena since Sydney 2000 (one gold, two silver and three bronze) pipping Australia for the bronze.

Germany wins team pursuit gold in new world record

Germany's Franziska Brausse, Lisa Brennauer, Lisa Klein and Mieke Kroeger break own world record to defeat the two-time defending Olympic champions Great Britain and win team pursuit gold at Izu Velodrome on August 3.

The German’s time of 4:04.242 was almost two seconds quicker than the world record that they set in the heats (4:06.166).

In the bronze-medal race, the USA team of Megan Jastrab, Jennifer Valente, Chloe Dygert and Emma White recorded a time of 4:08.040 to finish 2.512 seconds ahead of Canada.

Sailing: Italy win mixed foiling nacra 17 Olympic gold

Italy’s Ruggero Tita and Caterina Banti claimed the mixed foiling nacra 17 Olympic title defeating Great Britain on August 3.

The Italian sailors finished in sixth in the medal race, scoring 12 points, which were enough for them to take the title.

Tita and Banti's win was Italy's fourth Olympic gold medal in sailing and the country's first since Alessandra Sensini won gold in the mistral women in 2000.

Great Britain’s John Gimson and Anna Burnet's fifth place in the medal race gave them 10 points for an overall total of 45 and the silver medal. Germany crossed the line in the medal race in eighth, scoring 16 points, which gave them 63 points and the bronze.

British sailor Giles Scott captured gold in the men's one person dinghy (heavyweight) Finn class at Enoshima Yacht Harbour on August 3.

After a rocky start that saw him restart the race, Scott managed to catch up with the rest of the fleet to bring him again in medal contention. He had won six races out of ten in the qualifying rounds but needed to finish in the top five today in the medal race in order to win gold.

Scott crossed the line in fourth place to amass which took him back to leader position to win gold to follow up his gold victory at Rio 2016

Meanwhile, Hungary's Zsombor Berecz crossed the finish line first in the medal race but took silver with a total score of 2 points behind Scott's 8. It's Berecz's first Olympic medal of his career. He finished 12th at Rio 2016. Third place went to Spain's Joan Cardona Mendez in his first Olympic Games.

Great Britain sailors triumph in men's skiff 49er

Dylan Fletcher and Stuart Bithell of Team Great Britain pipped the New Zealand pairing of Peter Burling and Blair Tuke to clinch gold in the Men’s Skiff 49er class medal race at Enoshima Yacht Harbour in Fujisawa, Japan on August 3.

After an exciting final leg, New Zealand - leading going into the last leg - claimed silver, with Germany taking the bronze.

Brazil's Martine Grael and Kahena Kunze sailed to gold after winning the women's skiff 49er FX competition held at Enoshima Yacht Harbour on August 3.

They came in third in the medal race scoring 6 points which bring them a total of 76 points to win the top podium. This is Brazilian duo's second gold medal in the same event after winning in the same event at their home Games in Rio five years ago.

Meanwhile, Germany's Tina Lutz and Susann Beucke clinched silver with a total score of 83 whilst double world champions Annemiek Bekkering and Annete Duetz from the Netherlands finished ninth place in the medal race but picked up bronze after amassing 88 points.

Japan’s Sena Irie upset reigning world champion Nesthy Petecio of the Philippines to take Olympic gold in the women’s featherweight boxing on Tuesday, delivering the host nation’s first gold ever in women’s boxing.

Petecio who was seen as the favourite in the fight, took silver. Italian Irma Testa and Briton Karriss Artingstall were awarded bronze.

After becoming an Olympic champion for the first time at London 2012, Cuba's Roniel Iglesias is once again a gold medallist at the Olympic Games, beating Pat McCormack of Great Britain in the men's welter event at Tokyo 2020 on August 3.

The four-time Olympian, who also won bronze at Beijing 2008 in the light welter event, was never in doubt of winning the gold after McCormack hit the canvas in Round 2. It was a dominate display in the ring from Iglesias, winning in a 5-0 points decision.

The bronze medals went to ROC's Andrei Zamkovoi and Ireland's Aidan Walsh. The latter of the two was unable to fight in his semi-final bout after an injury forced Walsh to withdraw.

Diving: Xie Siyi wins men's 3m springboard gold

The two athletes from China showed their dominance to clinch gold and silver in the men's 3m springboard final at Tokyo Aquatics Centre on August 3.

Xie Siyi has won gold after smashing every dive in the men's 3m springboard final at Tokyo Aquatics Centre with a six-round total of 558.75 points. For Xie, this marks his first gold medal at an Olympic Games after having already won four gold medals at the World Championships.

Along with Xie, 19-year-old teammate Wang Zhoyuan took silver with 534.90 points in his Olympic debut. Meanwhile, Great Britain's Jack Laugher also performed spectacular dives to claim bronze after amassing a total score of 518 points.

Canoe sprint: New Zealand's Carrington, Regal win women's kayak double 500m gold

New Zealand’s Lisa Carrington and Caitlin Regal won the gold medal in the women’s kayak double 500 metres competition at the Tokyo Olympics on Tuesday.

Poland’s Karolina Naja and Anna Pulawska claimed the silver medal while Hungary’s Danuta Kozak and Dora Bodonyi took the bronze medal.

Basketball: Kevin Durant slams USA into Tokyo 2020 semi-finals

Kevin Durant delivered a team-high 29 points as USA beat Spain 95-81 in a thrilling Tokyo 2020 Olympic basketball quarter-final on August 3.

Just two days after becoming his nation’s top Olympic scorer ever, the Brooklyn Nets superstar was imperious once again with four three-pointers, four assists, and three steals.

Next up for the USA will be the winner of Argentina v Australia, as Durant edges closer to a third-consecutive Olympic gold medal.

Soccer: Brazil beat Mexico on penalties to reach final

Defending champions Brazil reached the final of the men's Olympic football competition on Tuesday, beating Mexico 4-1 on penalties after the game ended goalless after extra-time.

In the decisive shootout, Brazilian legend Dani Alves struck first, before Eduardo Aguirre and Johan Vasquez of Mexico missed both their first and second spot-kicks. Carlos Rodriguez scored the third for the men in green leaving Brazil needing just one more penalty to hit the net to win the tie outright.

Reinier duly obliged, despatching the final penalty past Memo Ochoa to send the Brazilians through to the gold medal match. Mexico will fight for the bronze medal against the loser of Japan and Spain, the winner of which will face Brazil in the final.
