Park Hang-seo: “Vietnam always strive for victory in each match”

Vietnam always strive for victory in each match and have constantly been prepared to play in the most conscious manner, head coach Park Hang-seo said ahead of their AFF Suzuki Cup 2020 semi-final against Thailand on December 23.

The Golden Star Warriors concluded their group-stage campaign in emphatic style advancing to the last four as Group B runners-up, following three wins and one draw.

The result has put Park’s side in the face of arch rivals Thailand, who won Group A, in the two-legged semi-finals for a place in the title match.

“Thailand possess a quality squad. Of course, there is nothing too outstanding about them, but they are a strong team. We always respect them,” Park talked about Vietnam’s semi-final opponents during a press briefing on Wednesday.

“We have always tried our best in the tournament. I can’t be 100% sure, but we can win,” the Korean coach affirmed when touching upon Vietnam’s winning outlook tomorrow.

In their last two meetings with Thailand in the 2022 World Cup Qualifiers, Vietnam walked away with a goalless draw.

Asked if his side have found a way to score against Thailand, Park said: “I think that the Thai team are also seeking ways to do so against Vietnam. My assistants and I will work out every possible plan to find the back of the net.”

Thailand head coach Alexandre Pölking previously led V.League team Ho Chi Minh City FC and is said to have a good understanding of Vietnamese football.

Commenting on this, Park stated: “We have met Thailand several times and have understood them well. Nothing strange at all. In short, there is nothing to worry about.”

Speaking at the press briefing, defender Do Duy Manh affirmed that Vietnam will give their best for the upcoming encounter. “We attained good results in the group stage and advanced to the semi-finals. We will continue to push hard for our set goal.”

The first leg of the AFF Cup 2020 semi-final between Vietnam and Thailand is set to take place at Singapore National Stadium on the night of December 23, three days before the two teams clash in the return leg.

With Singapore being the only host country of the tournament, the away-goal rule will not be applied to both the semi-finals and the final.
