The tournament is scheduled to take place from January 20 to February 6 in India, with Vietnam having drawn against two-time reigning champions Japan, Republic of Korea and ASEAN fellow Myanmar.
In a recently published article on the AFC’s website (the-Afc.com), the governing body of Asian football pointed out the key players who are expected to shine in Group C, with Huynh Nhu standing alongside Yui Hasegawa (Japan), Ji So-yun (Republic of Korea) and Win Theingi Tun (Myanmar).
The AFC described the Vietnamese captain as one of the most decorated female footballers in the country, following her 50 goals at international level and numerous domestic honours with the Ho Chi Minh City I club.
“Nhu has claimed seven league titles with Ho Chi Minh City I, including the past three in a row, while she has also won the top scorer award and been named MVP three times, having established herself as the outstanding individual talent in the Southeast Asian country,” the article stated.

It went on to say that having missed the 2014 AFC Women’s Asian Cup on home turf, Nhu scored crucial goals to help Vietnam qualify for the 2018 edition in Jordan, while her winner against Thailand in the 2019 AFF Women’s Cup saw Vietnam crowned regional champions for the first time since 2012.
The article said Nhu was a pillar in Vietnam’s journey to the 2022 showpiece, affirming that she and her teammates will be targeting a place in the AFC Women’s Asian Cup knockout round.
Coach Mai Duc Chung’s side are set to kick-start their Group C campaign with an opening clash against the Republic of Korea on January 21 before taking on Japan and Myanmar on January 24 and 27, respectively.
