The tournament will feature swimming events in a 25-metre (short-course) pool, which has different technical standards from the normal 50-metre one.

Hundreds of participants from around the world will be competing for medals in different distances of the freestyle, backstroke, breaststroke, butterfly, individual medley and relay events for both men and women and mixed events, including the 4x50m freestyle relay and the 4x50m medley relay.

At this year’s competition, Vietnam’s top hope Vien is expected to surprise in her favourite 400m individual medley discipline, in which she claimed a gold and set a record with 4:37.71 at the recent 2016 Asian Swimming Championships in Japan (50-metre pool).

In his latest 250-pool competition at the 2016 FINA World Cup in Tokyo, Japan last month, Vien ended up in sixth place overall in the women’s 400m individual medley category.

Alongside Anh Vien, Vietnam is also being represented by Tran Duy Khoi, Lam Quang Nhat and Le Nguyen Paul at the world championships in Canada.
