* Qatar will host the final two of the old-style seven-team Club World Cup tournaments before the competition is expanded to 24 teams from 2021, global soccer body FIFA said on Monday. FIFA confirmed that Qatar would stage the event in 2019 and 2020 when it would also serve as a test for the World Cup which the Gulf state will host in 2022.
* Andy Murray will make his competitive return from hip surgery later this month at the Queen's Club grasscourt tournament where he will play in the doubles event. Three-time Grand Slam champion Murray, 32, will likely partner Spain's Feliciano Lopez. He has not played since the Australian Open in January, after which he had a hip-resurfacing operation.
* British rider Daley Mathison died in a crash on the opening day of the Isle of Man TT races on Monday, organisers said in a statement. They said the 27-year-old, an experienced competitor on the Snaefell circuit with three podium finishes in the electric Zero TT, was killed at Snugborough on the third of four laps of the Superbike TT.
* Double Olympic champion Caster Semenya will be able to run in her favoured 800 metres event without medication to lower her testosterone levels until an appeal to the Swiss Federal Tribunal has been ruled on, the court said on Monday.
* China's Olympic team suffered a 4-1 defeat to Ireland U-21 side at their first Group C match at the Toulon Tournament in France on Monday. Guus Hiddink's men conceded the first goal only 33 seconds after the kick-off when Aaron Connonlly cut in from the left and Zach Elbouzedi made no mistake from his low cross.
* International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach received the 2019 Cem-Papandreou International Peace Award in a ceremony hosted in Athens on Monday, for his initiatives to promote peace through sports.
