Vietnam ready for continental U20 futsal champ

Vietnam U20 futsal team under head coach Truong Quoc Tuan set off for Iran for training on June 7, in preparation for the 2019 Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U20 Championship hosted by the Middle East country between June 14 and 22.

As scheduled, in Iran, the team will play a friendly match on June 10 against defending champions Mes Sungun, who defeated Vietnam’s Thai Son Nam in the 2018 AFC Futsal Club Championship’s final. On the next day, the Vietnamese players will play another friendly against U20 Taiwan (China), before officially kicking off their campaign at the 2019 AFC U20 Futsal Championship.

At the biennial continental tourney, Vietnam are in Group C with Japan and Tajikistan, competing in a round-robin format to decide the top two teams to enter the quarterfinals. Vietnam U20 futsal team will play their opener against Tajikistan on June 15 and next meet title favourites Japan a day later.

Before departing for training in Iran, the team underwent a training camp for one month at Thai Son Nam Gymnasium in Ho Chi Minh City’s District 8. They played three friendly matches with local teams and gained positive results.

According to coach Truong Quoc Tuan, the players showed improvements, meeting the training requirement and tactics set by the coaching staff. The team narrowed their squad to 16 players. After training in Iran, the final squad of 14 best players will be decided before officially attending the 2019 AFC U20 Futsal Championship finals.
