Gymnast Dang Nam wins eighth gold for Vietnam on SEA Games Day 3

Gymnast Dang Nam delivered a nearly-perfect performance in the men’s rings event on December 3 to clinch the eighth gold medal for Vietnam on the third official day of the 30th SEA Games in the Philippines.

* Vietnam wins five more golds to retain second place

* Vietnamese wushu scores first gold at 2019 SEA Games

With a score of 13.867, Dang Nam successfully defended the SEA Games title that he won in Malaysia two years ago.

The men’s rings competition also saw the participation of another Vietnamese athlete, Le Thanh Tung; however, the 2020 Olympian only managed a fourth-place finish overall.

Do Thi Ngoc Huong missed out on the second gold medal for Vietnamese gymnastics finishing second in the women’s uneven bars with 11.767 points, behind Farah Ann of Malaysia (12.367 points).

Gymnasts Dinh Phuong Thanh and Do Thi Van Anh brought home two additional bronze medals in the men’s pommel horse and the women’s vault, respectively.

Earlier on the same day, Vietnam won seven gold medals thanks to Pham Quoc Khanh (wushu, men’s Taolu Nanquan), Hoang Thi Duyen (weightlifting, women’s 59kg), Pham Thi Hong Thanh (weightlifting, women’s -64kg), Do Duc Tri (arnis, men’s anyo traditional open weapon), Nguyen Thi Trang (wushu, women’s Sanda 65kg), Bui Truong Giang (wushu, men’s Sanda 60kg), and Vu Thanh An (fencing, men’s sabre).

As of 10.30pm today, Vietnam maintained their second place in the SEA Games medal tally with 23 golds, 24 behind the Philippines and five ahead of Malaysia.
