The annual tournament, the second sporting event to be resumed in Vietnam after months of disruption due to COVID-19, will be divided into two stages.

The first stage (qualification), scheduled between June 1-9 in Nha Trang city, will feature competition among six teams, including Sanna Khanh Hoa, Tan Hiep Hung, Cao Bang, Quang Nam, Vietfootball, and Hung Gia Khang Dak Lak. They will compete in a round robin format to decide the top four teams that will progress to the second stage.

Stage 2 will bring together 10 teams, including the top six finishers of the 2019 season and the four best teams from the first stage, who will play in a two-legged round robin tournament to decide the overall champions. The first leg is slated for June 14-July 5 in Nha Trang, and the second between September 5-26 in Ho Chi Minh City.
