Here are five talking points from the latest V.League action.

  1. Saigon FC extend unbeaten run

Saigon FC players celebrate their victory.

Saigon FC were lower rated than Hanoi FC ahead of their Matchday 7 encounter, but Vu Tien Thanh’s side displayed a fantastic counterattacking style, causing numerous difficulties for the title holders. After 90 minutes of play, the visitors left Hang Day Stadium with the full three points thanks to a solitary goal scored by Geovane Magno.

With the victory, Saigon FC jumped to second place in the table, moving within one point of leaders Ho Chi Minh City. In particular, Vu Tien Thanh’s troops remain the only team to be undefeated after the first seven matchdays of this year’s V.League.

  1. Thanh Hoa FC continue flying high under new manager

Thanh Hoa FC have gone four consecutive matches unbeaten under the dynasty of new manager Nguyen Thanh Cong.

Thanh Hoa FC are going through sweet days under the dynasty of new manager Nguyen Thanh Cong. Their latest victory, 2-0 against Quang Ninh Coal on June 30, with Dinh Tung and Hoang Vu Samson on the scoresheet, marked the third consecutive win for the central team and also their fourth successive unbeaten game.

Such an exceptional result lifted Thanh Hoa FC to seventh place in the table with 10 points, only four behind the title frontrunners.

  1. Manager Vu Hong Viet bids farewell to Quang Nam FC

Quang Nam FC manager Vu Hong Viet looks disappointed during the press conference after their match with Viettel FC.

Despite home advantage, Quang Nam FC ended up empty-handed on Matchday 7 after conceding three unanswered goals against Viettel FC.

The fourth consecutive defeat pushed Quang Nam FC down to bottom of the table, causing manager Vu Hong Viet to submit his resignation. Manager Dao Quang Hung will replace Viet to lead Quang Nam FC from the eighth matchday. This is the third team in V.League 2020 to witness a change in the manager’s chair. Previously, Saigon FC and Nam Dinh FC also bade farewell to managers Hoang Van Phuc and Nguyen Van Sy, respectively.

  1. Managerial change transforms Nam Dinh FC’s fortune

Nam Dinh FC (in yellow) have moved two points clear of bottom after their Matchday 7 victory.

After a 0-2 defeat against Hai Phong FC on Matchday 6, the leadership board of Nam Dinh FC decided to sack manager Nguyen Van Sy and appoint assistant Pham Hong Phu as the team’s new boss.

Such a managerial change transformed the fortune of Nam Dinh FC, as in his first match in charge, manager Pham Hong Phu spurred his side to a resounding 3-0 home win against in-form Song Lam Nghe An.

The “three-star” victory put an end to Nam Dinh’s four-game losing run, leaving them two points clear of bottom.

  1. Five “crazy” minutes at Thong Nhat Stadium

SHB Da Nang forward Grace Tanda celebrates with manager Le Huynh Duc after rescuing the away side from a defeat.

The centre-stage match between Ho Chi Minh City and SHB Da Nang brought fans a thrilling spectacle with a dramatic run of scoring in the last five minutes of play.

SHB Da Nang held the advantage throughout the majority of the clash with a 44th-minute goal by Phan Van Long. However, two goals by Thanh Binh (88’) and Amido Balde (90’) helped HCM City reversed the situation to take a 2-1 lead.

It seemed it would be a spectacular comeback for the reigning V.League runners-up, but seconds before the final whistle, Grace Tanda made use of HCM City’s loosened defence to rescue a 2-2 draw for the two-time champions.
