On December 19, 2025, Viet Nam reached a particularly significant milestone in infrastructure investment: the completion, beyond the original target, of 3,000 km of expressways, forming a continuous corridor from Cao Bang to Ca Mau. The national expressway network has now reached a total length of more than 3,800 km, including 3,345 km of main expressways and 458 km of access roads.

Viet Nam allocated about 1.15 quadrillion VND (nearly 43.8 billion USD) for development investment in 2025, the highest ever recorded, the Ministry of Finance reported at its year-end review conference held in Ha Noi on January 6.

Looking back at 2025, despite severe storms and flooding, Viet Nam completed more than 1,000 kilometres of expressways, bringing the nationwide total to over 3,500 kilometres, well above the target of 3,000 kilometres.

At this time, along the entire 88 km Quang Ngai–Hoai Nhon Expressway project, the main items have basically been completed and are ready to be opened to traffic.

Viet Nam has approved an investment of more than 36 trillion VND (1.36 billion USD) to expand the Ho Chi Minh City–Trung Luong–My Thuan Expressway, a key transport axis that is expected to boost regional connectivity, ease congestion, and enhance the development of the southern economic corridor.

The total length of the expressway network currently in use in Viet Nam has reached 2,268 kilometres. The Ministry of Construction is striving to complete another 17 projects under its direct supervision with a combined length of nearly 890 kilometres by the end of the year.

The Lao government has approved a feasibility study for an expressway running from the capital Vientiane through the provinces of Xaysomboun, Xiengkhouang, and Houaphanh, to the Namsoi border gate bordering Viet Nam, to gradually upgrade the country’s national transportation infrastructure.
