Implementing traceability codes enhances market transparency

Adopting traceability codes to enhance market transparency is not a new practice, particularly in developed countries. In Viet Nam, however, with millions of businesses and small-scale production facilities, tracing the origin of each product remains a major challenge. This not only harms the interests of producers and domestic consumers but also diminishes opportunities for integration into promising export markets.

By mid-June 2026, the agricultural product traceability system had recorded the participation of 18,500 products from 26 provinces and centrally run cities.

Leaders of the Department of Science and Technology provided updates on the nationwide implementation of the agricultural product traceability system and affirmed that traceability is not a preferential mechanism reserved solely for export goods, at a press briefing held by the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment in Ha Noi on June 17 to mark the 101st anniversary of the Viet Nam Revolutionary Press Day (June 21, 1925–2026).
