Ho Chi Minh City is developing a programme to provide free bus travel for all residents. This is not merely a welfare policy, but also a step towards changing the travel habits of millions of people to ease traffic congestion and reduce environmental pollution.

Implementing the roadmap for developing green, environmentally friendly public transport, from April 18, Ha Noi continues to add 53 electric buses into operation on routes No. 16, 24 and 29, bringing the total to 699 vehicles, including 560 electric buses and 139 buses using CNG, accounting for 35.8% of the total fleet.

Ha Noi has put into operation 10 electric bus routes with a total of 288 vehicles from April 1, marking a significant step in the capital city’s roadmap to develop greener public transport.

The Ho Chi Minh City Management Centre of Public Transport under the municipal Department of Construction launched a public electric bicycle service on March 15, marking a new step in efforts to expand green urban mobility.

As the country’s leading economic engine, Ho Chi Minh City has been identified as a pioneer in the roadmap for “greening” transport, with priority given to the public transport system. This is a key pillar in reducing dependence on private vehicles while cutting emissions.

The Ha Noi Transport Management and Operation Centre has announced adjustments to bus and metro operations to ensure smooth public transport during the full-dress rehearsal of parade and march (August 29 - 30) and the official celebration of National Day (September 1 – 2).

Along with gradually restricting petrol-powered motorbikes in inner areas, Ha Noi is working to improve the quality of its public transport system as a means of easing traffic congestion and reducing environmental pollution.
