Investment in replacing vehicles with clean-energy alternatives not only contributes to improving the quality of public passenger transport services but also demonstrates the city’s determination to reduce environmental pollution and build a green, civilised and modern urban area.
According to information from relevant authorities, the addition of these 53 electric buses is implemented under the Project on Strengthening Sustainable Urban Transport for Ha Noi Metro Line No. 3, as part of the plan to implement the Scheme on developing a public transport system using electric buses and green energy across the city, in accordance with Plan No. 149/KH-UBND dated May 28, 2025 of the People’s Committee of Ha Noi.
After the new vehicles are put into operation, the total number of electric buses and buses using green energy across the city’s subsidised bus network has increased to 699, including 560 electric buses and 139 CNG buses, accounting for 35.8% of the total number of vehicles.
This marks an important step in Ha Noi’s roadmap for transitioning public transport vehicles. In recent years, along with rapid urbanisation, travel demand has continued to rise, while pressure from air pollution and traffic congestion has grown increasingly severe.
The development of electric buses and vehicles using clean energy is regarded as a fundamental solution to reduce emissions from transport activities, while also improving the quality of public passenger transport services.
According to the plan, by April 30, 2026, the city will continue to deploy an additional 122 electric buses on eight routes. At that point, the total number of electric and green-energy buses citywide will reach 821 vehicles, including 682 electric buses and 139 CNG buses, accounting for 42.1% of the total subsidised bus fleet.
Not stopping there, by the end of 2026, Ha Noi is expected to further invest in replacing an additional 30 electric buses on two routes, raising the total number of electric and green-energy buses across the network to 851, including 712 electric buses and 139 CNG buses, reaching a ratio of 43.6%.
According to assessments, this proportion not only meets but significantly exceeds the conversion target of 20–23% set out in Plan No. 149/KH-UBND. These results demonstrate Ha Noi’s proactive and decisive approach in achieving its goal of developing sustainable public transport, while gradually realising the green transition orientation in urban transport.
