According to the Hanoi Tourism Department, approximately 228,900 tourists visited Hanoi between December 30, 2017 and January 1, 2018, up 11% over the same period last year.
Of them, 68,900 were foreigners, marking an annual increase of 29%. The total revenue earned from tourism rose by 17% to VND 755 billion (US$33.5 million).
The most visited tourist attractions in Hanoi during the period included the Temple of Literature, which greeted 12,700 visitors, and Thang Long Royal Citadel, which was visited by nearly 4,000 holiday makers.
Most of the foreigners arriving in Hanoi came from the Republic of Korea, China, Japan, France, Australia, the US, and Southeast Asian countries.
Meanwhile, more than 70,000 tourists flocked to the mountainous town of Sapa in Lao Cai province to experience the 2017 Sapa Winter Festival. During the three-day holiday alone, the festival attracted 42,000 visitors, up 16.7% against last year’s event.
A wide range of activities were held during the week-long festival, including a photo exhibition, a street carnival, a show of the costumes of ethnic groups in Sapa, folk songs and games.
In the same period, the central province of Thua Thien – Hue received more than 30,000 visitors, including over 24,000 foreigners, according to Director of the Hue Monuments Conservation Centre Phan Thanh Hai.
The south central coastal province of Binh Thuan was visited by 45,000 holiday makers, a 5% annual increase.
In addition, over 400,000 festival goers flocked to the Go Thap Festival in Thap Muoi district, Dong Thap province.
