Various activities celebrate International Museum Day

On the occasion of International Museum Day (May 18), many museums organised various activities to help the public to learn, honour and promote the value of the heritages kept at museums.

This year, the International Council of Museums (ICOM) chose the theme for the 2023 International Museum Day edition: "Museums, Sustainability and Wellbeing.”

At the Vietnam Museum of Ethnic Cultures, the public has the opportunity to experience the application of 4.0 technology, in understanding and exploiting cultural information of ethnic groups, from now until the end of May 18.

In addition, there are several activities such as screening documentary films about cultural heritages of ethnic groups with a population of fewer than 10,000 people, at the museum's cinema room, learning about the Museum of Culture of Vietnam's Ethnic Groups and other cultural heritage education programmes at the museum, in an online form, as well as displaying a painting and photo contest with the theme: "The museum with Vietnamese cultural heritage".

At the Vietnam Museum of Ethnology, visitors have the opportunity to experience a free museum tour at 9am, 10am, 2pm and 3pm, on May 18.

At the Vietnam National Museum of History, the collection of Bat Trang ancient pottery will be introduced to visitors with artefacts from the 14th to the 20th centuries, divided into three phases. This is a rich collection of glazed ceramics with high historical, cultural and artistic value, helping the public to deeply understand and appreciate traditional cultural values, raise awareness of conservation and promote national cultural and historical values.

The exhibition opens on May 18 and runs until the end of September.
