Viet Nam’s vegetarian food market is growing at an average rate of 8.1% per year and is projected to reach a value of 220.5 million USD by 2033, according to market research firm IMARC Group.
IMARC commented that this indicates that vegetarianism is evolving beyond a seasonal or occasional trend into a sustainable consumer segment.
Demand for vegetarian products surges during occasions such as Vu Lan Festival, Buddha’s Birthday, and lunar calendar dates like the 1st and 15th, with supermarket and restaurant sales increasing by 15-20% compared to regular days.
At Co-opmart, for example, the stock of vegetarian products was increased by 20% during Buddha’s Birthday 2025 to meet the spike in demand.
With a large population, growing green living trends, and increasing health awareness, Vietnam’s vegetarian food market holds considerable potential.
Modern retailers such as Saigon Co-op play a key role in expanding supply and broadening access to vegetarian products, appealing to traditional vegetarian consumers and urban youth.
