Located in Northern Europe, Denmark is a country known for its high standard of living, hospitable people, beautiful natural landscapes and distinctive cultural traditions.
It was among the first Western countries to establish diplomatic relations with Viet Nam and was also home to a strong popular movement supporting Viet Nam’s struggle for national liberation.
Since establishing diplomatic relations in 1971, the two countries have maintained friendly ties and gradually expanded cooperation. They established a strategic partnership in the areas of climate change, energy, environment and green growth in 2011, before upgrading their ties to a comprehensive partnership in 2013. Viet Nam has consistently attached importance to consolidating and developing its friendship and cooperation with Denmark.
For Viet Nam, Denmark is not only one of the leading investors from the European Union (EU) but also a prominent Nordic partner in high-quality investment and green development.
In November 2023, the two countries established a green strategic partnership, opening numerous opportunities to strengthen cooperation in green growth, energy transition, and climate change response, thereby making green transition one of the key priorities in bilateral relations. Both sides are actively implementing the major orientations set out in the Green Strategic Partnership Action Plan.
With the support and assistance of the leaders and governments of both countries, many leading Danish companies have expanded their investments in Viet Nam in recent years through large-scale projects featuring advanced, environmentally friendly technologies. These projects align with Denmark’s strengths and Viet Nam’s orientation towards a new development model.
Progress in the Viet Nam-Denmark Green Strategic Partnership not only demonstrates the substantive expansion and deepening of traditional friendship and bilateral cooperation but also reflects Viet Nam’s determination to join the international community in addressing global challenges related to climate change and environmental degradation, towards a sustainable future for all humanity.
The growing presence of Danish businesses and their expanding investments in Viet Nam are creating opportunities for the two countries to cooperate, share experiences and promote technological solutions for green growth and sustainable development.
Viet Nam and Denmark have implemented numerous innovative initiatives in recent years, including the Green Hero Solution project — a circular model for climate-resilient agriculture and food systems in Viet Nam — and the event “Da Nang-Copenhagen: A Green Journey along the Han River.”
These initiatives also serve as an incentive for international businesses to continue establishing and expanding their investment and business networks in Viet Nam.
Building on a solid foundation of friendship nurtured over decades and shared development visions, particularly in the green economy, marine economy, and circular economy, Viet Nam and Denmark have opportunities to further expand cooperation in areas such as renewable energy, offshore wind power, and green infrastructure.
Effectively harnessing cooperation potential in these fields will generate fresh momentum for the Viet Nam-Denmark relationship to develop more deeply, broadly and effectively, bringing tangible benefits to the people and businesses of both countries.
