This is an event of great significance, underscoring the determination of the two countries’ leaders to further advance their traditional solidarity and special friendship to new heights.

Forged in hardship, the special solidarity between Viet Nam and Cuba has matured despite geographical distance, growing stronger over time and becoming a shining example of lofty, loyal, and pure international solidarity.

The peoples of the two nations have always stood shoulder to shoulder, sharing both materially and spiritually during the arduous struggles for independence and freedom, and rejoicing together in the glorious victories of each country’s revolutionary cause.

Today, as Cuba continues to face challenges on its path of national development, the Vietnamese people remain ready to stand in solidarity to support and assist their dear brothers and sisters half a world away. For all Vietnamese, standing by Cuba is a command from the heart — a responsibility as well as a profound honour.

In 1960, Cuba became the first Latin American country to establish diplomatic relations with Viet Nam. Since then, a proud chapter of rare and loyal friendship between the two nations has been written. Over the past 65 years, traditional friendship and fruitful cooperation between Viet Nam and Cuba have continued to bring comprehensive development across many fields.

Political trust has been steadily strengthened through high-level visits, telephone exchanges, and frequent meetings between the leaders of the two parties and states, as well as through bilateral cooperation mechanisms. Notably, these included the state visit to Cuba by General Secretary and President To Lam in September 2024, and the state visit to Viet Nam by First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba Central Committee and President of Cuba Miguel Díaz-Canel Bermúdez from August 31 to September 2, 2025. These historic visits demonstrated the resolute will of the two countries’ leaders to deepen bilateral ties and to inject fresh momentum into joint projects between Viet Nam and Cuba.

At the parliamentary level, in recent years the National Assemblies of Viet Nam and Cuba have maintained a close and substantive relationship of friendship and cooperation. The two sides established the Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Committee in April 2023. Their agencies have engaged in numerous exchanges of information and expertise on building and improving institutions and policies.

Strong political trust has created an important foundation for the two countries to expand cooperation in other areas. In the spirit of sharing both hardship and sweetness, and in light of the many challenges facing Cuba’s economy, Viet Nam has been actively assisting Cuba through projects on sharing rice cultivation experience, aquaculture, and solar energy development. The contributions of Vietnamese agricultural experts have played an important role in bringing about bountiful harvests on the Caribbean island, offering hope for Cuba’s goal of achieving food self-sufficiency.

In addition, a number of Vietnamese enterprises are pushing forward with investment projects in Cuba in the fields of infrastructure construction, building materials production and essential consumer goods.

At multilateral forums, Viet Nam and Cuba regularly exchange and coordinate positions on international and regional issues, support each other at international organisations and multilateral forums, particularly at the United Nations. Viet Nam has repeatedly affirmed its consistent stance of solidarity and support for Cuba; called for an end to unilateral economic and financial embargoes against Cuba; and supported efforts to improve and normalise Cuba - US relations.

Carrying forward the tradition of loyal solidarity and friendship nurtured over decades by generations of leaders and peoples of both nations, today’s younger generations are making greater efforts to keep the flame of friendship burning brightly, lighting the path of development for both countries. These efforts and determination have been expressed through practical, effective action. The programme “65 Years of Viet Nam - Cuba Solidarity”, launched by the Viet Nam Red Cross Society to mobilise resources to help Cuba overcome its difficulties, has generated strong resonance and received enthusiastic response from the Vietnamese people. This conveys a meaningful message from Viet Nam to its Cuban brothers and sisters: Cuba always holds a special place in the hearts of the Vietnamese people. Through the passage of time, the precious bonds between the two nations continue to be cherished and upheld by successive generations.

By welcoming Cuban National Assembly President Esteban Lazo Hernandez on his official visit to Viet Nam and co-chairing the second meeting of the Viet Nam - Cuba Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation Committee, Viet Nam once again affirms its deep respect for the special relationship between the two countries - a treasured common asset of the two peoples. It also reiterates the consistent policy of the Party and State to continuously strengthen this relationship and to strongly support the revolutionary cause of the Cuban Party, State, and people. New shining milestones in the history of bilateral relations will continue to be recorded as the two nations move forward together.
