Viet Nam–RoK Cooperation in webtoon industry

On June 26, the Korean Cultural Centre in Viet Nam announced that it would cooperate with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism of the Republic of Korea (RoK) and the Korea Creative Content Agency to organise the 2026 K-Comics Origin Viet Nam exhibition from June 30 to August 28 at 49 Nguyen Du Street, Hai Ba Trung Ward, Ha Noi.

The exhibition will showcase three popular Korean webtoons that have gained widespread popularity in Viet Nam.

The remarkable success of these television adaptations has led to growing interest in the original webtoons, which are increasingly attracting the attention of audiences.

According to Park Chan A, Director of the Korean Cultural Centre in Viet Nam, all the works featured in this exhibition are successful webtoons that have been adapted into games, animated productions and television dramas.

The exhibition is expected to provide an excellent opportunity for the webtoon industries of the RoK and Viet Nam to expand and strengthen cooperation in the future.

The event also marks the 20th anniversary of the Korean Cultural Centre in Viet Nam and will feature a range of activities, including meetings with Korean webtoon creators, a cooking experience, character design workshops, webtoon dialogue creation sessions, and AI-assisted webtoon creation seminars.

The K-Comics Origin Viet Nam exhibition forms part of the 2026 Korean Comics and Webtoon Exhibition project organised at Korean Cultural Centres around the world with support from the Korea Creative Content Agency. Viet Nam will be the first host country, followed by the United States, Indonesia, Argentina, Mexico, Hongkong (China), and Poland.

Webtoon is the term used to describe digital comics originating in the RoK that are designed for publication directly on the Internet. Unlike traditional comic books, webtoons are presented in a vertical scrolling format, allowing readers to follow the story comfortably and seamlessly by scrolling continuously on their smartphones.
