This was announced at a virtual conference entitled “The results of land border demarcation and marker planting between Vietnam and Cambodia” held by the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Communication and Education and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) in Hanoi on July 7.

Speaking at the conference, Vice Chairman of the MOFA's National Border Committee Phung The Long emphasised the importance of demarcation to the security of the national borders, contributing to socio-economic development as well as enhancing cooperation between the two neighboring countries.

The protocol and two treaties on the border between Vietnam and Cambodia that came into effect on December 22, 2020, recorded that about 84% of the demarcation and marker planting on the land border between the two countries had been completed.

They are supplementary to the 1985 Treaty on the Delineation of National Boundaries and the 2005 Supplementary Treat and the protocol on land border demarcation and marker planting, which took effect from December 22, 2020.

“The two countries' push for their coming into effect is an important premise to strengthen the international legal basis to continue building a border of peace, stability, friendship, cooperation and sustainable development, contributing to constantly consolidating neighborhood and traditional solidarity, for the benefit and prosperity of the two peoples,” Long said.
