The event was jointly held by the People’s Committee of Vietnam’s northern mountainous province of Ha Giang and the People’s Government of Wenshan prefecture of China’s Yunnan province.
Ha Thi Minh Hanh, Vice Chairwoman of the Ha Giang People’s Committee, stressed the significance of the border gate pair, which she said, is expected to contribute to spurring socio-economic development in the border area and will build a common border line of peace, friendship, stability, cooperation, and development.
The border gate will also facilitate export-import activities and promote the exchange of goods between border residents of the two countries, Hanh said.
Wenshan’s Deputy Governor Ma Zhishan highlighted cooperation between Wenshan and Ha Giang over the past years, pledging that the Wenshan People’s Government will intensify coordination with Ha Giang to create the best possible conditions for organisations and individuals to conduct export-import, immigration, and investment activities at the border gate.
Wenshan will push the building of commercial centres to contribute to border economic development and the improvement of the life of the two countries’ border residents, he said.
In 2017, Ha Giang has made all-out efforts in streamlining administrative procedures, and supporting businesses, organisations, and individuals in export-import activities.
As a result, total export-import revenue through border gates in the locality reached US$ 550 million, representing 110 percent of the set target.
Goods handled via the border gates are mainly agricultural products, machines and spare parts, among others.
