An agreement was signed between the two governments in Hanoi on March 11 approving the US$2.1 million project.

The agreement covers personnel training and the development of food crop models to help the African country improve its agricultural production, raising the productivity of rice cultivation and reducing the need to import.

The two sides will pilot models of planting soy beans, sweet potatoes and other vegetables to ensure food security and increase the income of local farmers.

Addressing the signing ceremony, Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development Cao Duc Phat said the Vietnamese Government highly values its co-operation with Mozambique in various fields, including the exchange of gene sources, development of rice cultivation models and rice co-operation.

The implementation of the project continues to reflect the two countries’ resolve to boost partnership in agriculture, he added.

Mozambican Ambassador to Vietnam Gamiliel Sepulveda Joao Munguambe said he believes the project will gradually contribute to developing Mozambique’s agricultural sector while ensuring food security and improving the living conditions of Mozambicans.

Mozambique pledges to work alongside Vietnam to reach the project’s goals, he stressed.
