Vietnam National Data Association launches Global Data Expert Network – VDEN

In the era as data becomes a nation’s “strategic resource”, the Vietnam National Data Association has introduced the Global Data Expert Network – VDEN, an initiative that bringing together Vietnamese intellectuals from around the world, connecting experts and policy advisers to help shape a self-reliant and sustainable data-driven economy.

Across the globe, many countries have already established open data networks and multidisciplinary expert communities. Notable examples include the BDVA and the European Health Data Space (EU), Data.gov and the Research Data Alliance (US), K-Data Network (the Republic of Korea), and AI Singapore and the Data Science Consortium (Singapore). These models demonstrate effective collaboration among the State – Enterprises – Research Institutes – Independent Experts, forming the foundation for data-driven economic growth.

Viet Nam is also entering an accelerated phase of digital transformation and innovation, creating a golden opportunity to establish national and international models of data collaboration. In this context, the formation of the Global Data Expert Network is both timely and essential, mobilising Vietnamese expertise worldwide to contribute to the development of the digital economy, digital government, and digital society, while enhancing Viet Nam’s position within the global data value chain.

According to the Vietnam National Data Association, the Global Data Expert Network – VDEN aims to harness the collective strength of the global Vietnamese expert community to co-develop the national data ecosystem.

The VDEN Network is being established and operated under five guiding principles and focuses on five key priority areas. The official launch is scheduled for October 16, 2025, in Hue City.

With the goal of becoming a “data bridge” for Vietnamese professionals both at home and abroad, VDEN seeks to promote knowledge sharing, experience exchange, and innovative initiatives — jointly contributing to the development of a self-reliant, creative, and internationally integrated data economy for Viet Nam.

The launch event is expected to gather many data experts from within and outside the country, opening up a new space for collaboration and marking a step forward in making data a true driving force for national development.
