The school is taking place from September 9-13 under the theme “Generation of digital elevation models using remote sensing data”, with the participation of over 40 scientists, young researchers and students from Vietnam, the Philippines and France.

The Vietnam School on Earth Observation is held annually within the Rencontres du Vietnam framework to help train young Vietnamese scientists in this field.

This year, VSEO4 will welcome distinguished scientists in the field, including Dr Ho Tong Minh Dinh from INRAE, France; Professor Stéphane Jacquemoud from IPGP-UPC, France; Professor Le Trung Chon from the Ho Chi Minh City University of Natural Resources and Environment; Dr Antoine Lucas from IPGP-UPC, France; and Jean-Philippe Malet from EOST-IPGS, France.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Professor Tran Thanh Van, Chairman of Rencontres du Vietnam and Director of ICISE, stated that earth observation and data analysis play an increasingly important role in various aspects of modern life, such as disaster forecast, natural resources management and urban planning.

He expressed his hopes that the knowledge and skills acquired by students of VSEO4 will become a solid foundation for them to contribute to the country’s sustainable development.
