During the visit, Ambassador Dung had a meeting with Paraguay’s Deputy Foreign Minister Federico Gonzalez where the two sides discussed the potential for expanded trade and economic cooperation.

Vietnam and Paraguay also agreed to consider holding a political consultation in early 2019.

At the meeting with the Ministry of Industry and Commerce, the two sides shared the view that the current bilateral trade value is not commensurate with both countries’ potential.

The Ministry said it would like to work with Vietnam’s trade promotion agencies and the Vietnamese Embassy in Argentina to organise activities to promote each country’s products and conduct business trips to explore the markets and look for new opportunities and partners.

As part of the Paraguay visit, the Vietnamese diplomat also met with Asuncion Mayor Mario Ferreir.

The mayor stated that the city will support and cooperate with the embassy to hold a Vietnamese Day in Paraguay in the time ahead.

He also suggested establishing a sister city relationship with Hanoi.

On this occasion, a workshop was held to introduce Vietnamese products that could be exported to Paraguay such as garments, footwear, consumer goods, ceramics and handicraft products.

Meanwhile Vietnamese enterprises are interested in Paraguay’s strengths such as soybeans, sesame, chia, animal feed and raw wood.
