Vietnam wins gold at Athens Special Olympics 2011

Nhan Dan Online - Ngo Huu Ky Phong, an 18 year-old athlete from the central province of Thua Thien-Hue secured a gold medal in the 50 metre race after clocking a time of 10.34 seconds at the Special Olympics World Summer Games Athens 2011 on June 30.

The eight members of the Vietnamese delegation, mainly from Thua Thien-Hue province and Ho Chi Minh City, led by Deputy Head of the National Sports Administration, Pham Van Tuan are participating in bocce and track and field events at the Games, which are being held in Athens, Greece from June 25 to July 4.

Also on the occasion, Vietnamese President Nguyen Minh Triet sent a letter of congratulations to the Chairman of Special Olympics International, Timothy Shriver, and President of the organising committee for the Special Olympics World Summer Games Athens 2011, Joanna Despotopoulou. The President’s letter expressed the Vietnamese State and people's great appreciation for this international humanitarian event which is an important encouragement for those who are proving the slogan ‘disabled but not useless.’
