With tournaments at the national team level having been suspended since the beginning of the year, the FIFA rankings for Q3 2020 witnessed little change from the previous quarters.
Accordingly, Vietnam remained no. 1 in Southeast Asia with 1,657 points, followed by Thailand (world no. 39, 1,596), Myanmar (world no. 45, 1,511) and the Philippines (world no. 67, 1,369).
Regarding the Asian standings, Mai Duc Chung’s side stood in sixth place, behind top-ranked Australia (world no. 7), the DPR Korea (world no. 10), Japan (world no. 11), China (world no. 15), the Korea Republic (world no. 18).
The Vietnamese team stand in sixth place in the Asian rankings.
The four-time world champions USA continue to reign on top of the FIFA rankings with 2,181 points. Germany follow in second at 2,090, with France (2,036), the Netherlands (2,032) and Sweden (2,007) rounding out the top five.
Amid the complicated developments of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Vietnamese team are scheduled to convene a training session in November. Mai Duc Chung’s side will continue to wait for updates from the ASEAN Football Federation and the Asian Football Confederation to issue specific plans for late 2020 and 2021.
