The adoption came following the completion of testing and training of Vietnamese referees under the supervision of the world’s football governing body FIFA.

According to the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF), Mai Xuan Hung has been selected as the main VAR official for the Viettel-Ha Tinh clash, while Duong Huu Phuc is named the assistant VAR official.

Both the referees put on a good performance at FIFA’s recent test.

The Vietnam Professional Football Company (VPF) said VAR will be used for about three to five matches in the remaining stage of Vietnam’s top-flight tournament V-League.

In the past, the VFF and VPF have worked with FIFA to organise VAR training for 18 referees and assistant referees in Vietnam, who all passed FIFA qualifications.

Commenting on the adoption of VAR, VFF Chairman Tran Quoc Tuan said the technology would help increase the quality of V-League, guarantee fairness and enhance the tournament’s image.
