Vietnam’s largest underground mall to open in Hanoi

Nhan Dan - The construction of Vincom Mega Mall, which will be the largest underground commercial centre in Vietnam and one of the largest of its kind in Southeast Asia once completed in August 2013 is being sped up to meet deadlines.

The 230,000m2 shopping mall in the southwest of Hanoi will consist of two underground floors with 62 emergency exits and ladders. It is part of Hanoi’s Royal City project, covering 12 hectares, and is designed to be a modern urban complex with hotels, offices and apartment buildings, as well as schools, commercial spaces and green parks.

Le Khac Hiep, Vice President of Vingroup – developer of the Royal City project, said that the group is also making progress on two other major projects in Hanoi, namely Times City and Vincom Village.

Foundation of the Times City project, located at 458 Minh Khai Street in the southeast of Hanoi is almost completed, while equipment is being installed at the Times City’s Vinmec International Hospital, which is scheduled to open in January 2012.

Meanwhile, the first phase of the Vincom Village project on 183.5 hectares in Long Bien district, featuring a commercial centre, schools and other facilities, is scheduled to be completed by the end of 2011.The Village’s Long Bien Vincom Centre is nearing completion and will open to public on December 24. Hiep said over 90% of space in the centre has already been leased.
