With great determination to claim the trophy, both teams pushed the tempo of the game which took off at a rapid speed right from the outset. However, the guests soon conceded as the home side took a 1-0 lead with a header by Van Thuan in the 7th minute.

Binh Duong then strengthened their attacks, searching for an equaliser. Although they took control of the game during the remainder of the first half, they were unable to beat Hai Phong’s goalie Thanh Thang.

Entering the second half, the visitors continued to dominate possession and created more scoring opportunities than Hai Phong, but crucially they were unable to convert their efforts into goals.

Meanwhile, the home team seemed to be effectively playing counter-attack. It was not until the 74th minute that Fagan netted another goal to widen the gap to 2-0.

The 2-0 score line remained unchanged, leading Hai Phong to claim the National Cup for the first time in 20 years. The winners walked away with a reward of VND1 billion (US$ 47,000) in cash from the organisers and an additional of VND1 billion from donors.

Hai Phong team will represent Vietnam and play at the 2015 AFC Cup, while Binh Duong will attend the qualifying round of the 2015 AFC Champions League.
