NA Standing Committee’s 14th meeting wraps up

The 14th meeting of the National Assembly Standing Committee wrapped up in Hanoi on August 11 after sitting for two and a half days.

NA Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue said the meeting had completed all tasks as scheduled.

He asked the Secretary General and Chairman of the NA Office to work closely with competent agencies to submit four resolutions passed at the meeting to him for signing, namely a resolution on the question-and-answer sessions; a resolution on the establishment of Binh Phu Township in Cai Lay District, Tien Giang Province; a resolution on the establishment of Chon Thanh Town and its wards in Binh Phuoc Province; and a resolution on continued payment for labourers in line with the NA Standing Committee’s Resolution No.03/2021/UBTVQH15, dated September 24, 2021, on support policy for labourers and employers hit by COVID-19.

Laos, Vietnam, Cambodia convene sixth court conference

The sixth court conference of Lao, Vietnamese and Cambodian border provinces opened in Vientiane on August 10.

The event not only enabled participants to share lessons in fighting transnational crimes and providing judicial assistance but also helped Laos carry out two national agendas on dealing with economic-financial difficulties and drug issues.

During the two-day event, delegates were due to look into the implementation of the joint statement from the fifth conference in 2018 along with solutions to combat transnational crimes and offer mutual judicial assistance, thus reaching consensus on the coordination plan for the coming time.

ASEAN Family Day 2022 held in Hanoi

On August 13, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the ASEAN Women's Circle of Hanoi (AWCH) jointly held ASEAN Family Day 2022 on the occasion of ASEAN’s 55th founding anniversary and the 27th anniversary of Vietnam’s accession to the regional organisation.

ASEAN Family Day 2022, held directly after two years of interruption due to the COVID-19 pandemic, took place with the participation of a large number of delegates and guests, demonstrating the joint effort to defeat the COVID-19 epidemic as well as the strong support and commitment to ASEAN.

The event acts as an important forum to connect colleagues, friends and family in the ASEAN Community with partners in Hanoi, contributing to strengthening friendship and cooperation while enhancing public awareness of the image and identity of ASEAN.

Petrol prices drop further

Fuel prices were reduced in the latest review by the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Ministry of Finance on August 11, marking the fifth consecutive reduction and the fourth significant drop.

Starting from 3:00pm, the retail price of E5RON92 biofuel slid by 904 VND to a maximum of 23,725 VND per litre, while that of RON95-III was cut by 939 VND to 24,669 VND per litre. Diesel stands at 22,908 VND per litre, a decline of 1,000 VND, and kerosene at 23,320 VND per litre, down 1,213 VND. The price of Mazut 180CST 3.5S remains unchanged at no more than 16,548 VND per kg.

The two ministries also determined to extract 350 – 750 VND per litre from fuel prices for the petrol price stabilisation fund.

Hoa Binh Province’s longan exported to EU

The first batch of longan grown in Xuan Thuy Commune, Kim Boi District, in the northern mountainous province of Hoa Binh, was shipped to the European Union (EU) on August 11.

Son Thuy longan became the first product of Hoa Binh to be granted the production unit code (PUC) in 2019, which has enabled the fruit to enter international markets, including the EU, through official channels.

Following the first tonne of longan, the department and FUSA Organic Agriculture JSC plan to conduct further shipments, with the target of reaching 50 tonnes this year.

Vietnamese students win seven gold medals at international invention contest

Vietnamese school students bagged seven gold medals for their inventions at the World Invention Creativity Olympic (WICO) 2022, which was held in the Republic of Korea from August 4 to 6.

The Vietnamese delegation to the event grouped students from four high schools throughout Hanoi, including the Hanoi – Amsterdam High School for the Gifted and three high schools under the Vietnam National University (VNU) – Hanoi.

The Vietnamese students brought to the competition a total of 25 inventions and projects in the three areas of technology, physics, and biology – chemistry.

Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia children’s festival opens in Ho Chi Minh City

Children from Vietnam, Laos and Cambodia gathered at a cultural exchange in Ho Chi Minh City on July 30 as part of an ongoing international exchange programme.

The programme is taking place from August 10-14 with the participation of 184 children from the three countries.

The annual programme has been held by the Ho Chi Minh Municipal Youth Union since 2010, with the aim to strengthen solidarity and amity between Vietnamese, Lao and Cambodian children.

E-book “Vietnam in the Ho Chi Minh Era - A Television History” makes its debut

A ceremony was held in Hanoi on August 10 to officially launch the e-book titled “Vietnam in the Ho Chi Minh Era - A Television History”.

The 90-volume e-book was compiled from the massive television documentary series of the same name which was broadcasted in 2021.

The publication of the e-book series aims to increase the spread of the documentary film in educational history and revolutionary tradition among the whole society, especially in the education system.

The e-book is officially released at http://bienniensuvietnam.vn.

Vietnam’s tourism administration launches new website

The Vietnam National Administration of Tourism (VNAT) has unveiled a new look for its website to enhance user experience and support the sector in post-pandemic recovery.

The new website, available at https://vietnamtourism.gov.vn, features bigger fonts and images with more open spaces to attract readers, who are now welcomed with panoramic banner images and distinctive information cards.

While navigating the portal, visitors can experience various multimedia content such as video clips, photo galleries and infographics about the development of Vietnam’s tourism sector. The website is also connected with social media accounts of the VNAT on platforms such as Facebook, YouTube and Zalo, offering readers a seamless experience.

Vietnam Conference on Earth and Environmental Sciences held in Binh Dinh

The second “Vietnam Conference on Earth and Environmental Sciences” (VCEES-2022) officially opened on August 8 at the International Centre for Interdisciplinary Science and Education (ICISE) in Quy Nhon City in the south-central coastal province of Binh Dinh.

The participating scientists and students will look into nearly 100 reports on environment pollution, water treatment, hydrometeorology and oceanography, aquatic science, remote sensing, plastic pollution, waste management, and applied environment, along with regional climate modelling and CORDEX-SEA related studies.

The annual function will help to enhance networking and collaboration among diverse participants, thereby promoting research and development activities on earth and environmental sciences.
