Australian Prime Minister pays official visit to Vietnam
Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison paid an official visit to Vietnam from August 22 to 24 at the invitation of Vietnamese Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc.
During his stay in Vietnam, PM Morrison held talks and a working breakfast with his Vietnamese counterpart Nguyen Xuan Phuc, met with Chairwoman of the National Assembly Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan and Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh, and attended a meeting with the business communities of both countries.
At the meetings, the two sides expressed their pleasure at the strong, dynamic and effective development of the Vietnam-Australia relationship over recent times, saying that the two countries hold substantial potential to strengthen their ties. They spoke highly of the regular exchange of all-level delegations across all channels.
The two sides issued a joint statement between Vietnam and Australia, in which they reaffirmed their commitments to developing the bilateral ties towards new heights.
Exemplary followers of President Ho Chi Minh’s teachings honoured

An exchange programme was held in Hanoi on August 19 to honour role models from all over the country in studying and following the ideology, morality and style of President Ho Chi Minh (1890 – 1969).
The event was held after three years of implementing the Politburo’s Directive 05-CT/TW on the Party Central Committee Secretariat’s Plan 03KH/TW on the acceleration of studying and following the late leader’s ideology, morality and style. It was also an activity to mark 50 years of the country’s realisation of his testament.
At the event, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc hailed the exemplary collectives and individuals, adding that through these role models, patriotism, the love of people and revolutionary ethics will spread in society, thus creating a driving force for the country’s industrialisation, modernisation and integration into the world, while helping to promote Vietnam’s stature in the international arena so that the country can soon be “on par with powerful nations across the five continents” as aspired by President Ho Chi Minh.
Vietnamese shrimp exporters enjoy zero taxes to US
The US Department of Commerce (DOC) on August 22 released the final results of the 13th period of review (POR 13), officially imposing zero percent tariffs on 31 Vietnamese shrimp exporters.
The DOC announced that the zero percent tariff will be applied to the two mandatory respondents in the review, Sao Ta Foods JSC and Nha Trang Seaproduct Company. The other 29 enterprises shipping shrimp to the US will be subject to the same rate at zero percent.
Earlier, the DOC in a preliminary finding concluded that the two mandatory respondents did not dump their shrimp products on the US market, making them exempt from anti-dumping tariffs when exporting shrimp to the country between February 1, 2017, and January 31, 2018.

Vietnamese fishermen awarded for saving Philippine sailors
The Mekong Delta province of Tien Giang on August 20 presented certificates of merit to nine fishermen in Go Cong town for saving 22 Philippine sailors who met an accident at sea. The nine are crewmembers of TG 90983TS board owned by Ngo Van Theng in My Xuan hamlet, Tan Trung commune, Go Cong town.
On the night of June 10, while operating in the Vietnamese waters, the Vietnamese fishermen spotted two Philippine sailors in a small boat asking for help. After taking the two sailors on board, Captain of the Vietnamese fishing vessel Nguyen Thanh Tam navigated to the location of the distressed ship and saved a further 20 fishermen.
The Vietnamese vessel then broadcast a message to other Philippine fishing boats in the area to collect their fellowmen and bring them home. After handing over the Philippine sailors to a Philippine vessel operating nearby, ship TS 90983TS continued fishing and returned to shore on August 18.
Vietnam Coalition for Climate Action makes debut
The Vietnam Coalition for Climate Action (VCCA) made its debut at a ceremony held in Hue city on August 21 by the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) – Vietnam and the Green Innovation and Development Centre (GreenID).
As a member of the Alliances for Climate Action (ACA), the VCCA has attracted the participation of 12 businesses, non-governmental and non-profit organisations, financial providers, consumer communities, research institutions, and associations operating in the fields of sustainable energy, green development and climate change adaption in Vietnam.
The VCCA aims to act towards a low carbon economy for the safety, sustainable development and prosperity of Vietnam. It is committed to taking concrete actions to work with the government, networks and make alliances in a joint effort to tackle climate change and energy transition in Vietnam and the world at large.
Da Nang tops Vietnam ICT Index for 11 consecutive years

Da Nang continues to lead the nation’s readiness index rankings for the development and application of information and communications technology (Vietnam ICT Index) in 2019, stretching its lead for the 11th consecutive year, as announced at the 23rd Vietnam ICT Development Conference, held in Phu Yen province on August 23.
Da Nang tops this year’s list for the 11th consecutive year in the group for provinces and cities, with a total score of 0,8654, followed by the neighbouring province of Thua Thien - Hue (0.8046 points) and the northern province of Quang Ninh (0.7350 points).
The rankings have been developed by the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) in collaboration with the Vietnam Association for Information Processing for the last 14 years. There are 24 ministries and ministerial-level agencies and 63 provinces and cities nationwide assessed in the rankings, which have been built according to the United Nations index system based on three main components – technical infrastructure, human resources and IT application.
Vietnam advance to final of AFF women’s football champs
Vietnam beat the Philippines 2-1 in the first semi-final match of the ASEAN Football Federation Women’s Championships on August 25 in Thailand. With the result, Vietnam became the first team to have secured a place in the final round of the event.
Hosts Thailand, who topped Group A, will face Myanmar in the second semi-final match on the same day.
The regional championship sees Vietnam, Myanmar, Cambodia and Indonesia competing in Group B, while Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Timor Leste and hosts Thailand are in Group A.
The 2019 AFF Women's Championship is taking place in Thailand from August 15 to 27 August.
Vietnam tops Shuttlecock World Championships 2019 in France

The Vietnam’s team posted a first-place finish at the Shuttlecock World Championships 2019, which took place from August 21 to 24 in Eaubonne, in the northern suburbs of Paris, France.
The Vietnamese players took home five gold and two silver medals, while China’s team finished second with two gold, three silver and one bronze medal, followed by team from Hong Kong (China) with two silver medals.
The Shuttlecock World Championships 2019, the tenth of its kind, attracted the participation of 15 teams, which are all members of the International Shuttlecock Federation, including France, Vietnam, Germany, Hungary, China, Hong Kong (China), and Canada, among others.
