PM chairs ceremony marking 75th anniversary of National Day

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and his spouse chaired a ceremony marking the 75th anniversary of Vietnam's National Day (September 2) in Hanoi on August 28.

Speaking at the ceremony, PM Phuc highlighted Vietnam’s important achievements over the past 75 years, as the country has reaped a range of successes including high economic growth, improved living conditions of people, maintenance of socio-political stability, ensured defence and security, expanded external relations, and active and responsible contributions to peace and cooperation in the region and the world.

PM Phuc took the occasion to express his wish to continue receiving invaluable support and effective cooperation from the international community.

The Vietnamese Government leader once again affirmed Vietnam’s foreign policy of independence, self-reliance, diversification and multilateralisation of external relations, and active and proactive global integration; as well as that of being a friend and responsible member of the international community, promoting cooperation with countries on the basis of respect for independence, sovereignty, equality and mutual benefits, settling differences via peaceful measures in line with international law.

Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc attended the virtual third Mekong-Lancang Cooperation (MLC) Leaders’ Meeting on August 24, together with high-ranking leaders from Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand and China.

Themed "Enhancing Partnership for Shared Prosperity", the meeting reviewed the MLC’s recent cooperation and discussed orientations for promoting its collaboration in the coming period.

At the meeting, the leaders of the six member countries adopted the Vientiane Declaration and witnessed the role of MLC co-chair transfer from Laos to Myanmar.

Vietnam announces 268 trustworthy exporters

The Ministry of Industry and Trade has approved a list of 268 trustworthy Vietnamese export companies across 25 sectors in 2019.

The exporters were selected from the nominations of agencies concerned and based on such criteria as minimum revenue, business reputation among foreign partners, fulfilment of tax obligations, and environmental compliance.

The announcement of the list is necessary to assist Vietnamese companies to increase exports and expand their markets, especially as Vietnam is participating in a wide range of bilateral and multilateral trade agreements.

Project helps promote Vietnam’s trade and investment policies in Thailand

The Vietnamese Embassy in Thailand on August 28 officially launched the “Window to Vietnam” project - a display area and information counter supporting Vietnam’s commercial, tourism, and investment promotion in the country.

“Window to Vietnam” aims to provide information relating to Vietnam’s policies on business, investment, and tourism for Thai and international companies.

The project is also hoped to support Vietnamese businesses, especially those looking to make inroads into the Thai market, as well as Thai enterprises operating in Vietnam to promote their image.

695 COVID-19 patients in Vietnam fully recovered as of August 31 morning

As many as 695 of the total number of COVID-19 patients in Vietnam have fully recovered as of the morning of August 31, according to the National Steering Committee for COVID-19 Prevention and Control.

The country’s total for COVID-19 cases was reported at 1,040, including 550 cases linked to outbreaks in Da Nang which began on July 25. There have been 32 COVID-19-related deaths so far.

Among the active patients, 40 have tested negative for the coronavirus SARS-CoV-2 once, 48 twice and 27 three times.

Currently, 57,097 people who had close contact with COVID-19 patients or came from pandemic-hit areas are under quarantine nationwide.

Vietnam Golden Book of Creativity 2020 honours 75 scientific and technological works

The Vietnam Golden Book of Creativity 2020 was released on August 24, honouring outstanding individuals whose research works and applications in the field of natural and applied sciences have significantly contributed to the country’s socio-economic development.

The book consists of 75 works and seven creative science-technology solutions selected from 157 works proposed by ministries, organisations and localities.

The book aims to encourage individuals, agencies, organisations and enterprises to strongly engage in creative activities, scientific research and technology development in all fields, he added.

Made-in-Vietnam AI platform makes its debut

The Viettel AI Open Platform, an artificial intelligence (AI) platform developed by the military-run telecoms group Viettel, was launched by the Ministry of Information and Communication at a ceremony on August 28.

The Viettel AI Open Platform provides platform technologies using AI to help automate, optimise, and efficiently operate organisations and businesses using the world’s most advanced techniques.

The platform is currently focusing on areas such as Vietnamese speech processing technology (Speech Processing), Vietnamese natural language processing technology (Natural Language Processing), and computer vision technology (Computer Vision).

Football coach Park Hang-seo was honoured with a second-class Labour Order on August 27 while his assistants Lee Young-jin and Kim Han-yoon received Certificates of Merit from the Prime Minister in recognition of their contributions to Vietnamese football.

At the presentation ceremony in Hanoi, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Ngoc Thien congratulated the Republic of Korean honourees and affirmed that Vietnamese football has made great strides forward since Park took the helm of the national men’s teams. He also expressed his hope that he and other coaches will continue to help the national and U23 teams, as well as Vietnamese football in general, to reach new heights.

Thanking the Vietnamese Party, State, and people for the Labour Order, Park said he is aware of his substantial responsibility towards Vietnamese football and will work harder to continue bringing joy to local fans.

Vietnam launches website promoting sustainable tourism to foreign tourists

The “Green Travel” website, Vietnam’s official tourism website for foreign tourists, was launched on August 27 at the address www.vietnam.travel/sustainability, providing viewers with articles on responsible tourism, Vietnamese culture and customs, and tourism destinations across the country.

A list of Vietnam’s recognised sustainable tourism products and services along with sustainable tour operators are also available at the site.

The site, which was the jointly developed by the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism, the Tourism Advisory Board (TAB), and the Swiss Sustainable Tourism Programme (SSTP), aims to support sustainable tourism companies, as well as tourists interested in this type of tourism, in finding useful information in order to prepare in advance for their trips to Vietnam when international tourism activities are resumed.
