Russian President Vladimir Putin told Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian on Thursday that Moscow is ready to do everything within its power to help Tehran resolve the regional conflict. During a meeting with the Iranian leader in Turkmenbashi, Turkmenistan, Putin said Iran has made concrete efforts to end the conflict and put forward new proposals for a peaceful settlement, according to the Kremlin.

* Britain's ruling Labour Party retained the Holborn and St Pancras parliamentary seat in London following a by-election on Thursday, with its candidate Sagal Abdi-Wali receiving 12,292 votes, according to results announced early Friday.

* Guinea-Bissau's transitional Prime Minister Ilidio Vieira Te and the National Electoral Commission (NEC) said Thursday that conditions were not in place to hold the country's general elections scheduled for Dec. 6.

* Singapore and Mongolia will open applications for carbon credit projects on Oct. 30 under a bilateral implementation agreement, Singapore's Ministry of Energy, Trade and Industry and National Environment Agency said in a statement on Thursday.

* U.S. President Donald Trump said Thursday that the United States would not attack Iran before the Nov. 3 midterm elections, even as a U.S. blockade remained in place, while describing ongoing talks with Tehran as productive.

* Japan's Cabinet on Friday approved a bill to temporarily cut the consumption tax on food and beverages and introduce an income-based benefit program, marking a major step toward securing its passage during the current Diet session.

* German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and British Prime Minister Andy Burnham formalised the ratification of the Kensington Treaty and agreed to enhance cooperation across technology, space, and security, after a meeting on Thursday in Berlin.

* Türkiye and France have signed a roadmap to further develop bilateral relations in defense and security, the Turkish Defence Ministry said Thursday.

* Pakistani security forces killed seven terrorists during an intelligence-based operation in North Waziristan district of the country's northwest Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province on Friday, security sources said. According to the security sources, the operation was conducted on the basis of intelligence information about the presence of terrorists in the area.

* Two people were killed in a shooting in Berngau, in the German state of Bavaria, German newspaper Bild reported on Thursday. Citing police, local media reported that the shooting took place while two government staff were carrying out a routine weapons check at a residential building. Police have surrounded the house, where the suspected gunman is believed to be hiding.

* Nine inmates and a child visitor were killed Thursday in a brawl at El Castillo prison in Mexico's northwestern state of Sinaloa, local authorities said. Personnel from several agencies intervened to restore order, and the prison is now under control, the state's Secretariat of Public Security said in a statement.

* Three Saudi citizens were killed and a number of people of various nationalities were injured in two attacks targeting Riyadh's King Khalid International Airport and an aircraft belonging to national carrier Saudia on Thursday, Saudi Arabia's General Authority of Civil Aviation said on Friday.

* An Israeli military officer was killed and three soldiers lightly injured in southern Lebanon, the Israeli military said Thursday. The military identified the officer as Captain Eliav Haim Tzapalamus, 21, a combat officer in the 603rd Battalion of the 7th Brigade. It said he was killed "during combat," without elaborating.

* Kenya on Thursday received a cash grant from China totaling 2 million USD to support its Ebola response and drought relief.

* China recorded 826 million domestic tourist trips during the seven-day National Day holiday, with tourism spending totaling 738.38 billion yuan (about 109.67 billion USD), the Ministry of Culture and Tourism said Friday.

* Cambodia's total imports of diesel fuel, gasoline, and combustion gas reached 2.82 billion USD in the first nine months of 2026, marking a 53.8 percent surge from 1.84 billion dollars during the same period last year, according to the Ministry of Commerce on Friday.

* Australia's east coast gas market is expected to have sufficient supply to meet domestic demand in the first quarter of 2027, with a projected surplus of between 5 and 15 petajoules (PJ), the government said.

* Tax revenue from Venezuela's non-oil sector increased by 22.6 percent in the first nine months of this year, Acting President Delcy Rodriguez said Thursday. * Canada's trade surplus widened sharply to 4.2 billion Canadian dollars (about 2.9 billion USD) in August, Statistics Canada said Tuesday. The SpaceX Dragon spacecraft carrying four astronauts undocked from the ISS at 8:05 a.m. Wednesday Eastern Time (1205 GMT) and began its journey home.

* At least 28 people were killed in a head-on collision between a passenger bus and a truck in Tanzania's eastern Morogoro Region, the regional fire and rescue service said Friday.
