1,000 French people in Lorient City celebrate Lunar New Year

A programme was held at the Paris Congress Centre in Lorient City, Morbihan Region, France, on February 11 (the second day of the first lunar month), attracting the participation of about 1,000 people.

The event was organised by the Vietnam Bretagne Sud Association in conjunction with the Lorient City Council and the Art Space Association. The artistic programme was curated by artist and musician Hoàng Thu Trang, a Vietnamese expatriate in France.

The programme was attended by local authorities, including Fabrice Loher, mayor of Lorient, Laurent Duval, mayor of Languidic, and Patrice Valton, mayor of Larmor-Plage, among others.

This was the first time a Vietnamese cultural event was held on a large scale in Lorient City, including half-day activities to help people learn more about the diverse cultural and historical features of Vietnam.

Booths introducing the calligraphy arts and folk games, special dishes for Tet, and lion and dragon dances delighted the French public attending the event.

The special highlight of the event was the art programme with 15 unique performances promoting Vietnamese music and arts to French friends.

The programme brought together nearly 100 volunteers and amateur artists from many French cities such as Paris, Nantes, Rennes, Laval, Toulouse, and Lorient. The performances were all elaborately choreographed, featuring the harmony between traditional and modern arts.

The Ao Dai collection by Vietnamese-Belgian designer Ella Phan was also performed on stage by French and overseas Vietnamese girls.

In addition, the programme also featured a special appearance by a Choir consisting of 50 members of French and Vietnamese people in France of all ages who have a special love for Vietnam.

French-Vietnamese Choir sang Vietnam’s famous song “Trong Com” and the French song "Le monde nous appartiendra", which part of the lyrics were translated into Vietnamese by musician Hoang Thu Trang.
