The annual gathering, Asia’s top athletics decision-making forum, aimed to review the past year’s activities, adopt key decisions for major continental events, map out a long-term strategy, and align the sport’s regional roadmap with fast-changing global trends.
Director General of the Sports Authority of Viet Nam (SAV) Nguyen Danh Hoang Viet, in his opening speech, affirmed that with strong support from the Party, State, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, and the SAV in recent years, the Vietnamese athletics has achieved major breakthroughs, making increasingly meaningful contributions to the development of Asian athletics, which is becoming more modern, professional, and ambitious on the global stage.
He said the Prime Minister’s recent approval of a scheme on developing Vietnamese athletics to 2030, with a vision to 2045 demonstrates Viet Nam’s determination to turn the sport into a driving force to improve physical fitness, quality of life and the global image of the Vietnamese people in the new era.
Viet Nam stands ready to expand cooperation with countries around the world and work closely with Asian athletics in training, professional development projects and the creation of a fair, transparent, doping-free competitive environment in line with the core values of global sports, he said.
President of the Asian Athletics Association Dahlan Jumaan Al Hamad expressed his hope that Vietnamese athletics will continue building on these accomplishments to elevate its standing at even larger international competitions.
He called on delegates to engage in active discussion and propose creative solutions and breakthrough ideas to ensure that Asian athletics continues to rise and shine more brightly on the global sporting map.
