Marking the 80th anniversary of the traditional day of the Vietnamese sports sector, the Sports Authority of Viet Nam organised the programme “Glory of Vietnamese Sports” to honour outstanding coaches and athletes nationwide in 2025, and the “Youth Month – Sports Month” exchange gala at My Dinh National Stadium, Ha Noi on March 27 evening.

The programme also conveyed a message of endurance, determination, and aspiration for advancement of the national sports sector in a new phase. From the memories of previous generations to the sharing of young faces, the most frequently mentioned common factor was perseverance — the element that forms the core value of elite sports.

Speaking at the event, Le Thi Hoang Yen, Deputy Head of the Sports Authority of Viet Nam, emphasised that this is a particularly meaningful event in the series of activities commemorating the 80th anniversary of the traditional day of the sports sector, providing an opportunity to look back on the proud 80-year journey of the building and development of the national sports, as well as honouring and expressing gratitude for the significant contributions of generations of officials, coaches, and athletes who have continuously strived and dedicated themselves to the development of sports and the glory of the Fatherland. Each medal won by an athlete not only reflects talent but is also the result of a long process of rigorous training, during which athletes must overcome their own limits and competitive pressure. Sports not only produce achievements but also help nurture national spirit and the will to strive in society.

One of the highlights of the programme was the exchange between athletes of generations. The story of former swimming champion Vu Thi Sen, who competed during a time when the country faced many difficulties, evoked a period when sports were closely associated with the spirit of overcoming hardship. Memories of training under challenging conditions, or the occasion of meeting President Ho Chi Minh, created a strong emotional connection with younger athletes.

From another perspective, the current generation offered a different view on pressure. Shooter Trinh Thu Vinh shared the belief that “pressure creates diamonds,” considering challenges in training and competition as inevitable in reaching the top. Footballer Nguyen Dinh Bac also emphasised the responsibility of young athletes to inherit and promote the tradition.

This year’s list of athletes honoured reflects the diversity of the Vietnamese sports, from athletics and shooting to para sports. The “Glory of Vietnamese Sports” programme is not only an annual awards ceremony but also helps review a phase of development of the Vietnamese sports.
