2022 FIFA World Cup opening ceremony: majestic and bold Gulf identity

The 2022 FIFA World Cup officially opened at the Al Bayt Stadium in Al Khor, Qatar on November 20, with the participation of the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, members of the Royal Family and many heads of state, leaders of countries, FIFA President Gianni Infantino, leaders of football federations around the world and 60,000 spectators.

The mascot La’eeb appeared at Al Bayt Stadium to open the 2022 FIFA World Cup, to the resounding applause and joy of the fans and guests.

The ceremony has many symbolic indications that express welcome, generosity and hospitality in Arab culture, as well as contemporary musical, cultural and visual performances, that were used for the first time in the tournament.

Speaking at the opening, the Emir of Qatar Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, warmly greeted football fans from around the world. He emphasized, this is the first historic event held in the region and has been awaited by Qatar and Gulf countries for many years.

He also affirmed that the host country Qatar will do its best to make the tournament a success.

The opening ceremony concluded with a brilliant firework display and a spectacular light art show. The 2022 FIFA World Cup will take place over a month and close on the evening of December 18.
