8,000 children receive free heart surgery

The 8,000th child with heart disease has just received free surgery under a programme funded by the VinaCapital Foundation (VCF), announced the VCF on November 12.

The child is H’Nhun Nie, an 11-year-old Ede ethnic minority girl from Buon Ma Thuot, Dak Lak Province. H’Nhun, who was diagnosed with a ventricular septal defect, received her life-saving surgery on September 3 and was discharged one week later.

The surgery was carried out under a Heartbeat Vietnam charity programme, which has been operated by the VCF since 2006 to provide free health screening, check-ups and surgeries for children with heart diseases in remote and mountainous region across the country.

It has benefited 528 children since the beginning of this year and 809 others in 2019.

In addition to funding free heart surgeries for children, the VCF has also worked to improve medical capacity and provide medical equipment for the local healthcare sector.
