The diplomat called on the Thai governor to send delegations to localities in Vietnam for establishing and developing cooperation relations.

Vietnam and Thailand now have 19 pairs of localities that formed twinning relationships and cooperation relations.

Ambassadors Thanh and governor Nirat also discussed the possibility of establishing an Honorary Consulate in Chiang Mai and the northern region of Thailand to support economic and cultural cooperation between the localities of the two countries, support consular procedures, and citizen protection function in Thailand.

Thanh also suggested the provincial government continue to support and create favourable conditions for the Thai community of the Vietnamese origin in the province.

Nirat emphasised that Chiang Mai, as an important locality in the northern region of Thailand, has great tourist attractions. Now, direct flights from Chiang Mai to Hanoi, Da Nang, and Ho Chi Minh City are creating favourable conditions for trade and tourism between the localities of the two countries. The provincial official affirmed that the province always respects and supports the Vietnamese-origin community there.

Earlier the same day, Ambassador Thanh visited Chiang Mai University to discuss measures to promote educational cooperation.
